Tik Tok And How It Caught On

As the Pandemic rages on, a new app has taken over quarantine to pass the time. TikTok is an app where users can create micro-videos with content of their choosing (granted it's within TikTok's guidelines). Many users have been using it to watch videos or to create videos while waiting out the virus and to pass time.
How did TikTok become so popular so quickly? With a majority of it's users being under the age of 25, it is likely that it become so popular because those who are around this age were used to using the app Vine. While it has no comparison to Vine according to generation Z, TikTok has still gained major popularity. With over 1.5 billion downloads, and 800 million users, it is said to reach a billion users in 2020.
Its quick gain in popularity could be due to the fact that you can share these videos on other platforms, like Instagram and Snapchat, allowing more than just it's own users to view and interact with the videos that come with the app. You can also send the videos via texting so those who don't have the app, but want to see what was sent to them, has to download it to view.
It also helps that the early adopters of this app were major influencers and companies including the NBA and the NFL allowing users to watch snip-its of recordings from previous games.
Although most of those over the age of 34 don't use or even know what the app is, it should definitely be considered because of it's widely diverse entertainment options.
